The Magic of 5am When It's Still 20+ Degrees

The Magic of 5am When It's Still 20+ Degrees

Stillness at Argirokastu Square

I entered Argirokastu Square an hour before dawn. I wanted to revisit this archway that leads into Rhodes Old Town to photograph it as the first hints of dawn illuminated the sky.

I had captured it a couple of years previously but wasn't completely happy with the image, so it was always on my mind that I needed to visit again.

There is something magical about venturing out at some ungodly hour in the summer here.

Firstly, it's still warm; once, at 5am, it was in the high 20s when I set out to shoot. As you might expect, it's pretty quiet apart from a few people heading home after a night out and the occasional street cleaners, and of course, those Greek cats!

The most apparent thing you notice is the stillness and peace—not even the birds are stirring.

I captured several images, ensuring I retained the atmosphere of this beautiful historic place.
