I'm very much drawn to the onset of darkness. It's a magical time I refer to as the edge of darkness. A brief time when it's neither day nor night - the transition of light is evenly balanced between the two. There is always a slight feeling of anticipation while shooting, together with one of witnessing something special.


There is no better place to experience this than Rhodes Old Town, with the added excitement of people meeting up to enjoy an evening together - something the Greeks do better than anyone.

Chasing Odysseus at Dawn (And Nearly Swimming With My Camera) Where do ancient legends meet perfect light? At Mouse Island in Corfu, where Homer claims that Odysseus's ship was transformed by Poseidon's wrath into the emerald rock we see today. I'd already shot this mythological place from distant cliffs at dusk, but something called me closer. I wanted intimacy with this legendary location - to capture Panagia Vlacherna church in perfect morning light. With my rental car returned, I faced a choice: lengthy road journey or what locals called a "short beach walk" - provided the tide allowed passage. I certainly didn't fancy an impromptu swim while carrying camera gear and tripod! Fortune smiled. This time, I was the inquisitive one disturbing their peaceful siesta! While exploring the enchanting back streets of Lindos with my wife, we wandered down one of those picture-perfect narrow alleys that make this ancient town so special.
