THE SUBCONSCIOUS PHOTOGRAPHER: FINDING BEAUTY IN RHODES' ANCIENT ARCHES
Have you ever wondered what goes through a photographer's mind when they capture an image? Sometimes, even I can't fully explain what draws me to certain scenes!
Walking through the Old Town of Rhodes, I found myself instinctively composing multiple frames of these ancient arches. It wasn't until I was editing that I realized what had captured my subconscious attention - the mesmerizing geometric interplay between the curved arches and diagonal steps, creating a perfect composition that tells the story of antiquity.
But the true magic? The light. I'm often shooting contre-jour (into the light), a technique beloved by fashion photographers that transforms ordinary architecture into something ethereal. That Mediterranean light in Greece is unlike anywhere else - it doesn't just illuminate, it reveals the true essence of what you're seeing.
Photography literally means "drawing with light" in Greek and there's no better place to experience this than in Rhodes, where history and light dance together through ancient stone passageways.
This is why I return to Greece again and again - for those moments when something catches my eye, and I operate on pure photographic instinct, letting decades of experience guide my composition while the unique Greek light does the rest.
