Morning light reveals stories that darkness keeps hidden.


As the strengthening sun cast its warm glow across the horizon that special morning in Kos, I witnessed a magnificent transformation. The rising light began to carefully illuminate the textures of Kastri island, highlighting every detail of the charming Agios Nikolaos chapel and the rugged cliffs rising behind it.


What captivated me most was the beautiful contrast developing before my eyes. While the island basked in warm, textured illumination, the sea remained in cool blue tones—smooth and almost textureless. This interplay created a visual harmony that speaks to the duality so often found in Mediterranean landscapes—the rugged against the serene, the ancient against the timeless.


This was my second capture of Kastri that morning, quite different from my dawn image. Where the earlier photograph captured the mysterious quality of first light, this one revealed the island's character with greater clarity yet equal beauty. It offered a more subtle aesthetic, one that rewards patient observation.


These moments remind me why I rise before the sun. There is a fleeting magic in watching a landscape reveal itself gradually in changing light—a private performance for those willing to witness the transition from darkness to day.

At Mouse Island in Corfu, where Homer claims that Odysseus's ship was transformed by Poseidon's wrath into the emerald rock we see today.
